Sawston Cinema - Rabbit Proof Fence

Having been unable to secure The Red Shoes for our 3 November screening, we will now be screening The Italian Job.

THE ITALIAN JOB 1969 (Cert PG) 100mins

Charlie Croker is out of jail and on the make with an ingenious plan for the heist of the century. Aided and abetted by top criminal mastermind Mr Bridger, Charlie sets off with an ace team of villains and three very special minis to lift $4,000,000 from under the noses of the Turin Polizei. The trouble is, with the cops and the Mafia on his tail, Charlie finds that grabbing the money is kids’ stuff compared to getting away with it…

See The Italian Job at Sawston Cinema on Tuesday 3 November at 6.30pm – and bring your friends along.  Tickets £3.50 (£2.50 concs) available at the door, from Sawston Village College reception and to book by email and on 01223 712825.

We’re continuing to develop our ideas and this week began to put them down on paper, making notes. People were coming up with really good suggestions, and I think we have the potential to make a gritty, hard-hitting and edgy drama.

We’ve had lots of good ideas from the beginning of this project and, as some of us already know how to do animation, we’re very keen to get on with it. We are, however, a bit daunted when we think about how long we have to make the film as it seems quite a lot to achieve in a short time. Some new people joined our group this week. We looked at different responsibilities – for animation and for sound recording – and discussed who might take on what. There’s a lot to organise and we need to be sure we get it right.

We’re having great fun and are pleased we joined this project group. We try to be well organised and spent some time in this session picking our roles within production and having a lot of discussion about this. Everyone wants to play Danny! We all want to be the leading character! We made everybody within the group that wanted to be the leading character do a small audition this week. Everyone found it really tricky to decide who might play the main character. I think we’re all budding actors. So, maybe we need to have more than one actor. There could be friends that go through the screen together. Then there would be another actor to meet them in the different genres who would be their guide. Maybe this actor would be stuck in the other dimension or stay there because he likes it.

Projecting the Past

Projecting the Past

Projecting the Past is the first film to be produced at Sawston Cinema. The film was supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. Made by students from Sawston Village College and older members of the local community working with professional filmmaker Peter Harmer, the film both traces the history of cinema locally and recreates the memories of some of the people who both worked and visited the original cinema in Sawston. This screening offers an insight into Sawston’s unique cinema past and will be enjoyed by all ages. Not to be missed.

See ‘Projecting the Past’ on Tuesday 7 July at 6.30pm. Tickets are available from Sawston Village College reception during schoolhours and to reserve via telephone and email. Contact Lesley Morgan on 01223 712825 or email lmorgan@sawstonvc.org.

Tickets are also available on the door. Tickets: £3.00/2.00 concs.
